A lesson in faith…ask and believe without doubting!

Today was a beautiful day here in the Northwest. Full sun without a rain cloud in sight. So what is a mother to do on such a beautiful day?

Why… take her children to the river of course.

I always love being down by the water. There is something so peaceful about being there and it is easy to wipe away the distractions and focus in on talking to my Father in heaven.   Today was no exception.

As we were arriving my 10 year old son, with his child like faith, says out-loud to God…”God, please make waves today.” My daughter being the analytical type promptly said to her brother…”Waves wouldn’t be good at the river, it would destroy the beach.”  So, not wanting to douse his faith, I promptly followed up with, “Well, we don’t have to believe for waves that big…”

About an hour later as I am laying on the blanket, totally immersed in conversation with God, I hear my son say… “He did it!” I turn over, and sit up to see a large ship coming down the river. I said…”What did He do son?”   To which he responded to me… “MOM…don’t you remember? I asked God to make waves for me!” He scrambles out of the water as fast as he can scanning the beach front for drift wood he can use to “surf the waves!”

It didn’t matter to my son that the waves were not big like at the ocean…what mattered to him was that he felt in his heart that not only had God heard his prayer but He had answered him!

To have the faith of a child…

Luke 11

9 So I say to you, Ask and keep on asking and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened to you.

10 For everyone who asks and keeps on asking receives; and he who seeks and keeps on seeking finds; and to him who knocks and keeps on knocking, the door shall be opened.

11 What father among you, if his son asks for a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; or if he asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent?

12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?

13 If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts [gifts that are to their advantage] to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continue to ask Him!

James 1

6 Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind.

7 For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,
